Thinking About Safety 24/7/365

Safety Is Priority One

Safety, a core value at Grane, is the first thing we think about when we wake up in the morning and the last thing we think about when we go to bed at night — the safety of our employees, the safety of our drivers, and the safety of our customers’ freight. Not only do you get great and timely service from us, but when you ship with Grane, you can rest assured that your product arrives safely and in one piece. No transportation company can be in business for over 90 years if safety is not a priority, which is why, at Grane, we actively advocate a culture of safety.

Our Culture of Safety

How we promote safety:

  • Our comprehensive driver recruiting and training program pursues only the safest, most experienced drivers in the industry.
  • Our drivers use some of the newest equipment on the road; our trucks and trailers are, on average, four years old.
  • We hold monthly safety initiatives and quarterly safety retraining with all our drivers.
  • We have a dedicated in-house safety and claims department.
  • We have been electronic logging device (ELD) compliant for five years before the 2017 mandate went into effect.
  • All our trucks and trailers are equipped with GPS and trailer tracking.
  • Our industry-leading, in-house maintenance department operates 24/7/365, constantly inspecting our trucks and trailers to ensure that every vehicle is running correctly.
  • We conduct safety games and award the winners as a way of keeping safety top of mind for our employees.

Driver Safety Is No Accident

At Grane, our goal is zero accidents. Even if realizing this goal is somewhat unlikely, we continually strive to achieve it through intensive driver training and advanced technology — and we get results. We have been recognized for our commitment to safety by many of our customers, and we are the proud recipient of a major shipper’s safety performance award.

Driver Safety Tips

Our drivers are reminded to:

  • Get enough sleep before hitting the road and take frequent breaks.
  • Become familiar with the truck’s interior and be sure to adjust the seat, backrest and mirrors for comfort and visibility before driving.
  • Stay within the speed limit.
  • Be aware of the weather and take necessary precautions.
  • Keep a safe distance between their vehicle and those in front of them.
  • Only use hands free devices when driving.
  • Know their blind spots and check them often.
  • Use caution and common sense when loading/unloading.
  • Try to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

State-of-the-Art Technology

We utilize advanced technology to remotely keep an eye on our drivers by:

  • Installing equipment such as GPS truck tracking solutions to monitor and relay information about driving behavior.
  • Enhancing safety through Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that help to prevent collisions, promote hands-free phone use, brake automatically and more.
